Starting in 2016, the Nigerian Breweries PLC–through its “33” Export lager–has celebrated the World Friendship Day (July 30) with fanfare.  The fun continues in 2018: on July 10, the company announced its plans for this year’s celebrations, which includes the  “City of Friends” parties in Calabar and Lagos.

“We do not just want to celebrate friends on billboards and magazines; we want to create a city, an enclosed funfair, holy pilgrimage for friends where great memories can be shared,” says NBL’s Marketing Director Franco Maria Maggi at a press conference to announce the programmes for this year. “We want to entertain friends and ensure the bonds created cannot be broken. We want to be part of the beautiful memories as we take friendship to a whole new level.”

According to Maggi, the City of Friends parties in Calabar will hold July 28th – 29th (at Municipal Gardens) and August 3rd – 4th in Lagos (Eagles’ Club, Surulere)

Artistes to thrill attendees include 9ice, Harrysong, Simi, Kizz Daniel and Alabi Pasuma among other fan favourites. Gordons is also billed to perform on stage alongside a couple other comedians; and there is a selection of DJ’s to keep fans on their feet.

“I am very excited about this year’s World Friendship Day and the City of Friends. I am even more excited that Nigeria is joining the rest of the world to celebrate unity with a Taste of our Brew that unites,” Maggi adds. “The “33” Export brand is dedicated to building friendship moments. We believe that Friendship should be celebrated every day. Hence, all our brand activities are geared towards celebrating friendship.”

This year, consumers and friends stand a chance to win N5,000-worth of gift items. There is also to be the #ThatOneFriend Competition, open to the public. Essentially, participants are to share their Friendship memories– in pictures, text or videos and publish same on their social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and tagging the “33” Export brand.
