“33” Export Announces Writing Competition for Journalists and Bloggers


July 30 is World Friendship Day. And to mark the event, the management of “33” Export lager beer ( a product of Nigerian Breweries PLC) has announced a writing competition for Nigerian journalists and bloggers. Tagged “Pen Down for Friendship”, the competition opens on July 11 and closes on July 27, after which the jury will comb through the submissions to select the winners.

“[It] is a call on Journalists and Bloggers to share their Friendship memories,” says Franco Maria Maggi, Nigerian Breweries Marketing Director at the press conference to announce the competition “We don’t just want you to share other people’s stories, we want you to publish your stories. We have a Team of Judges that will review all the published works. The works with the highest points will be rewarded with a training grant and other exciting prizes.”

A three-person jury was also revealed same day. Headed by novelist Anthony Kan Onwordi (aka Toni Kan), it includes Bisi Deji-Folutile (Saturday Editor at The Punch newspaper) and travel writer/ author, Pelu Awofeso.

According to Maggi, the works with the highest points will be rewarded with training grants and other exciting prizes, including free “33” Export Lager, shipped and delivered to winners’ doorsteps.

More specifically, the publisher of the top 10 works will get Laptops each. The top 3 works from these 10 will also get N500k, N300k and N200k training grants respectively,” he adds.

How To Enter

Tell a story about friendship in English language with considerable mentions of friendship and 33 Export Larger Beer using audio, video or writing (minimum of 500 words and maximum of 1000 words.)

Mr Maggi also announced that this year’s “City of Friends” Parties will hold in Calabar (Municipal Gardens; 28-29 July) and Lagos (Eagles Club, Surulere; 3-4 August) respectively.

“33 Export celebrated WFD for the first time in Nigeria in 2016 with the World. Although, the exercise was not widely recognized in Nigeria then, the Team publicized the day like no other and weaved the communications around these friendship principles,” he says. “Our plan is to surpass our own best efforts in 2018! Come July 30th, 2018, we will join the World again to celebrate friendship in a grand style. I say grand because this time we are taking the celebration to the grassroots.”
